Father-Daughter Date Ideas

Little girls love their dads, and even now being a not-so-little girl, I am no different. My dad was the first man I ever loved. He taught me to see myself as smart, kind, determined, and worthy… just like he sees me. And he taught me not to settle for anyone who might not see those qualities. I could go on and on about what a good man my dad is and how much I love and respect him, but that will just make me cry! Instead, I have been doing a little research and thinking back on all the fun times I had with him as a kid, to find some fun “date” ideas for dad’s and their daughters! With all the superhero dads and sweet daughters that are out there, the possibilities are endless, but here are a few that I know I would love as a little or not-so-little girl!

Camping

Who says camping is just for boys? Little girls would love a night under the stars with dad. Grab some sleeping bags, flashlights, pajamas, or even her favorite “dress-up” outfit, and pitch a tent in the backyard. The two of you can play flashlight tag, catch lightning bugs, read a book or tell funny stories. And if your daughter is anything like me, she will definitely want to make s’mores!

Get Dressed Up and Go Out!

Getting dressed up for anything makes you feel like you are doing something special. For the next daddy-daughter date, let your little girl pick out something special to wear. Then maybe mom or another lady in the house can help her get “fixed up” with a pretty hairstyle, bows, or even some fun jewelry. But remember, just because you look fancy doesn’t mean you have to break the bank. Let your little girl pick out a favorite restaurant or ice cream shop, and enjoy a “glamorous” afternoon or evening out and about together. Looking for that perfect dress or outfit for your daughter’s date with dad? You teach me, I teach you

Dads get to teach their daughters all kinds of things. For this date, let your daughter do some of the teaching too! Dad can choose one fun thing to teach, and she can do the same, setting you both up for an exciting two-part date. Maybe your date will start at the pond with dad teaching his little princess how to bait a fish and cast a line, and end at the pottery shop with dad learning a thing or two about how to paint polka dots on a vase. Or maybe dad will be teaching how to build a fort, and she will be teaching how to roller skate. Regardless of what you each choose, you will be sharing something you enjoy with someone you enjoy being with, and that is what is most important!

Work together to make something for someone

Dads and daughters can be a great team. For your next date, consider working together on a project for someone else, maybe mom, grandma and grandpa, the other siblings, or an old couple down the street. Dad and his special helper could make a favorite dessert, decorate special cards or artwork, plant flowers, or maybe even build something like a birdhouse. Working on a fun project will bring you together as a team, allow you to spend time talking just the two of you, will leave you feeling accomplished, and will make the day of whoever you plan to surprise!

Work a lemonade stand together

If dad wants to teach his daughter about entrepreneurship and the value of hard work, consider opening a lemonade stand together for your next summer afternoon date! The two of you can work together to get the perfect setup for business… mixing the lemonade, decorating the sign, organizing the table, deciding on the pricing, and of course, serving your thirsty customers! After a day of hard but fun work, you guys will be rich! =) So now it is up to you, how will you spend the money? Maybe the two of you will continue your date by spending the cash at the ice cream shop or the movies; or perhaps you can take the money to your favorite charity and enjoy the good feeling knowing you worked together to help a great cause!

Daddy Date Jar

Now that you have a few father-daughter date ideas to add to your collection, check out this great idea I found on Pinterest from The Dating Divas blog, . Make a “Daddy Date Jar” by decorating a mason jar like the one below, and filling it with fun date ideas for dads and daughters. Then, when the free afternoon or evening rolls around, you two can grab the jar and pull out a strip with a surprise date idea. Every time you come up with a new idea, jot it down and add it to the collection!
